Timely Tips        

With final exams just five weeks away, keep these pointers in mind:

1.    Start preparing NOW!

2.  Organize your study time

¨    Set a realistic goal for each study session

¨    Prioritize your work

¨    Break complex subjects into smaller parts

¨    Work on information that must be memorized first, and review it again at the end of your study session

¨    Alternate subjects and assignment types when studying

¨    Study your least favorite subject(s) first

¨      Take a short (5-minute) break every 45-60 minutes

3.  Learn HOW to study for tests

¨    Most questions come from material covered in class, so go over your notes and review all handouts thoroughly

¨    Predict test questions from class material

¨    Recite major concepts/terms aloud. Try explaining them in a small study group or in front of a mirror

¨    Review old tests and quizzes

¨    Have all reading done ahead of time

4.  Memorize and remember

¨    Use acronyms and other pneumonic

¨    Create rhymes if you learn best auditorially

¨    Use as many senses when you study as possible

¨    Write info down, stare at it, and recite it

¨    Use flashcards or graphic organizers

¨    Be sure to understand the material

¨     Review often and start early
